State Police Respond to Fatal Crash on Route 93 in Woburn
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Orlando Tirella indicates the following: 50-year-old Kenneth Fosman of Salisbury, NH, was operating a 2003 Mercury sedan in the breakdown lane of Route 93 southbound when he accelerated and moved into the first travel lane striking a 1999 Ford pickup truck operated by 33-year-old John A. McCormick of Woburn. Fosman then drove the Mercury sedan back into the breakdown lane hitting the guardrail and rebounded out into the first travel lane striking a 2001 STLG tractor trailer operated by 55-year-old Clifford C. Johanson of Revere. McCormick and Johanson were uninjured in the crash. Fosman sustained serious injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger in the Mercury, a 16-year-old male juvenile sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by Med Flight Helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Massachusetts Highway Department, the Woburn Fire & EMS assisted troopers at the scene. The right two travel lanes of Route 93 southbound were closed for approximately 4 hours during the investigation.
