Today at approximately 2:50 AM, Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Route 93 North in Andover at Exit 45 that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Joseph Crowley indicates that a 1984 Mack truck equipped with a sander and being operated by Norman Gaudet, age 40 of Hudson, NH, was traveling north on Route 93 in Andover at Exit 45 in the left lane when it was struck in the rear by a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier being operated by Matthew Winchell, age 30, of Haverhill, MA. After the collision, the Cavalier then lost control, spun out in the roadway, and was subsequently struck by a 2007 Chevrolet van being operated by Milo Cooper, age 37 of Barnstead, NH. Gaudet was uninjured, while Cooper sustained minor injuries. Winchell sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. The Andover Fire Department and Andover EMS, along with MassHighway, assisted Troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation the left lane of Route 93 North was closed for approximately three hours.
