State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 6 in Barnstable

Yesterday, at approximately 11:35 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in South Yarmouth responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 6 East at Route 132 (exit 6) in Barnstable that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Garry Turgiss indicates that 20-year-old Tamti Truong of Harwich Port was operating a 2007 Honda Civic on Route 6 East when her vehicle crashed into the rear of a 2008 Peterbilt truck operated by 45-year-old Edward Scales Jr. of Methuen, which was also traveling on Route 6 East. The Honda then struck the guardrail on the right shoulder of the Route 132 ramp, continued off the left shoulder of the ramp and collided into a tree before coming to rest. It is unknown if Scales was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but he was uninjured in the crash. Truong was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and she sustained serious injures. She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Barnstable EMS where she was declared deceased.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Barnstable Fire Department, Barnstable EMS and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery, the Ramp from Route 6 to Tour 132 was closed for approximately 3 hours.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
