State Police Promote Boating Safety

State Police Promote Boating Safety

On Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. the Massachusetts State Police Marine Section will host a press event at the Marine Section Headquarters located at 200 Beverly Street, Boston. This press event aims to educate the public on boating safety during the summer boating season.

At the event, Troopers assigned to the State Police Marine Section will provide boaters with safety tips and demonstrate the proper use of safety equipment. Some of the safety tips that will be incorporated in the presentation include: the importance of boating safety courses and vessel safety checks; ensuring necessary safety equipment is on-board prior to getting underway; and the dangers of boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Weather permitting, after the safety presentation, members of the media are welcome to ride-along with the Marine Section as they conduct safety inspections of boats on Boston Harbor. In order to ensure that sufficient resources are available, please make requests for media ride-alongs to Tpr. Eric Benson in the Office of Media Relations (508)-820-2658.
