State Police Apprehend Suspect in Stolen Tow Truck in Boston

Today, at about 11:02 a.m., State Police arrested a Brockton man who fled in a stolen tow truck in Boston.

At about 10:45 a.m., while on a paid detail on Gallivan Blvd. in Dorchester, Trooper William McSweeney observed 22 year old Marcus Harris of 30 Oak St. Ext. in Brockton operating a 2002 International ramp tow truck which was recently reported stolen by Boston Police. Trooper McSweeney followed the vehicle onto Hollingsworth Ave. where he activated his cruiser's emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Harris backed the tow truck into Trooper McSweeney's cruiser and then continued to lead Trooper McSweeney on a pursuit that ended at Columbia Rd. and Ceylon St. after a successful deployment of tire deflation devices by Trooper Leroy Keyes.

During the pursuit, Harris was involved in three separate crashes. Harris collided with 22 year old Zakiah Williams of Mattapan who was operating a 2000 Lexus at 555 Norfolk St. Williams was transported to Carney Hospital with minor injuries by Boston EMS. Harris continued and then collided with 19 year old Darryl Simpson of Dorchester who was operating a 1997 Nissan Altima at 718 American Legion Highway. Simpson was transported to Boston Medical Center by ambulance with minor injuries. Harris then collided with a 1988 Mercury Marquis causing it to strike a parked 1999 Ford Taurus. The operator of the Mercury, Jonathan Hicks, was transported by ambulance to Faulkner Hospital with minor injuries.

Harris was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the State Police Barracks in South Boston where he was booked on the following charges: 1) Two counts of assault with intent to murder, 2) Assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, 3) Assault by means of a dangerous weapon, 4) Three counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, 5) Larceny of a motor vehicle, 6) Receiving a stolen motor vehicle, 7) Failure to stop for a police officer, 8) Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, 9) Operating to endanger, 10) Speeding, 11) Marked lanes violation and 12) Red light violation.

The suspect is due to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
