State Police Investigate Crash in Cambridge involving a Suffolk County Sheriff's Van
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Arvin McGowan, indicates a 41-year-old, Mark Miscavage of 241 School Street in Somerville was operating a 1999 Dodge Stratus in the left lane of the O'Brien Highway inbound and lost control of the Dodge crossing the center lane markers into the outbound lanes of travel. The Dodge sideswiped the driver's side of a 1997 Nissan Altima traveling outbound in the middle travel lane, operated by a 39-year-old male, Nascimento Hermogenesdo, of 253 Broadway in Somerville. The Dodge continued and collided head-on into a 2002 Ford, Suffolk County Sheriffs Department, Prisoner Transport Van. The Ford was operated by a 40-year-old Christopher Collins and the passenger was a 41-year-old Kevin Scully. There were no injuries in the crash.
Miscavage was arrested for 1) Operating Under the Influence of Drugs/Narcotics; 2) Wrong Way Operation; 3) Fail to obey sign; 4) Negligent Operations of a Motor Vehicle. Hermogenesdo was arrested for 1) Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Both Miscavage and Hermogenesdo transported to the Boston Barracks and booked.
This crash remains under investigation. The Cambridge Fire Department and Boston EMS assisted troopers at the scene.
The left and middle lanes of O'Brien Highway outbound were closed for approximately 20 minutes during the investigation.
