State Police Investigate Assault with Hammer on Route 93 South in Canton

Today, at approximately 3:30 PM, Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Framingham responded to a report of an assault on a motorist on Route 93 South in Canton just prior to Route 95.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper John Fanning indicates that two vehicles, a pickup truck and a passenger van, were traveling south on Route 93 in Canton. As the vehicles were in adjacent lanes, an occupant of the pickup truck threw a hammer at the passenger van, smashing the operator's side rear window on the left side of the van. There were no injuries and, although the van is used primarily to transport elderly persons, there were no passengers in the van at the time. The operator of the van was able to safely pull over to the side of the highway, while the pickup truck fled the scene. The hammer was recovered inside the van. The motive for the assault remains under investigation, but information suggests that road rage played a part in the attack.

The pickup truck is described as a dark gray Nissan pickup truck with a cap, occupied by two white males and last seen traveling on Route 1 north toward Boston.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police in Framingham at (508)820-2250.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
