State Police Investigate Crash on Route 495 South in Chelmsford

Today, at approximately 11:55 a.m. troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Concord responded to a one-vehicle crash on Route 495 South just prior to Route 110 (exit 34) in Chelmsford that resulted in one injury.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Anthony DeLucia indicates 53-year-old Mark L. Wykoff of Akron, OH was operating a 2005 International Semi-Tractor on Route 495 South in the right lane when he lost control of the vehicle. The tractor traveled off the right shoulder, through a guardrail and rolled over coming to rest on its right side. Wykoff was trapped in the vehicle for a short period and was extricated and transported to the Leahy Clinic by the Chelmsford Fire Department. As a result of the rollover an undetermined amount of diesel fuel did spill from the tractor's fuel tanks.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. The Chelmsford Police Department and the Chelmsford Fire Department, and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.

During the vehicle recovery and investigation the right lane and breakdown lane of Route 495 South where closed. The lanes currently remain closed and are expected to be reopened for the rush-hour commute and possible closed again after the commute.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
