State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 90 East in Chicopee

Today, at approximately 5:20 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Westfield responded to a two vehicle crash on Route 90 East, east of Exit 5 (49.4 mile marker) in Chicopee that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper James Talbot indicates that 31 year-old Christine M. Docarmo of Chicopee was operating a 2004 Ford SUV on Route 90 East in the right travel lane when she struck the rear of a tractor-trailer unit operated by 42 year-old Ricky J. Thomas of Springfield which was parked in the breakdown lane. Docarmo sustained serious injuries in the crash and was subsequently declared deceased at the scene. Thomas was uninjured in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery the breakdown lane and right travel lane were closed for approximately 3 ½ hours.
