State Police Dive Team Searches Sunken Vessel in Nantucket Sound

Today, at approximately 5:30 a.m., 10 members of the State Police Dive Team and 3 members of the State Police Marine Unit departed Woods Hole to conduct a search of the New Bedford fishing vessel (Lady of Grace) that had sunk in approximately 50 feet of water, approximately 12 miles off of Nantucket during the last week of January. At approximately 7:45 a.m. three members of the Dive Team entered the water, made entry into the submerged vessel and did a complete search of the vessel's galley. The divers did not locate any crew members in the galley. At approximately 8:45 a.m., conditions deteriorated (20 mph winds and eight-foot seas) and, for the safety of the divers, the search was terminated.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks or Dive Team directly.
