State Police Arrest 3 Wanted for Passing Counterfeit Travelers Checks

On March 12, 2007, at 2:00p.m., State Police from the Norwell barracks arrested three men on Route 3 in Duxbury, after receiving information that the occupants of the vehicle were wanted by the Kingston Police for using counterfeit traveler's checks at several stores in the Independence Mall in Kingston.

Area patrols were advised that a 2005 black Honda Element with New Hampshire license plates had just left the Mall with three occupants fitting the description of the men who had been shopping in the Independence Mall earlier that day using the counterfeit traveler's checks.

Trooper Kevin Walsh was working a traffic detail on Route 3 North in Kingston at Exit 10 when he spotted the wanted Honda. He followed the vehicle and was able to stop it just prior to Exit 11 in Duxbury. He was quickly assisted by Troopers Keohane, Oxner, Doucette and Joyce, as well as Trooper Pantazelos of the K-9 unit. Trooper Walsh observed ripped up traveler's checks on the floor of the vehicle, shopping bags with items apparently purchased at stores in the Independence Mall and additional intact traveler's checks, as well as large sums of cash.

The driver, identified as Kevin Clement, age 21, of Brockton, and the passengers, Sharriff Johnson, age 28, of Boston, and Marcelino Henry, age 24 of Andover were arrested and charged with the following: Possession of Counterfeit Traveler's Checks, Conspiracy, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, after it was learned that a juvenile female, who apparently had been with them earlier, had already been apprehended at the Mall for the same crimes.

In addition, the driver, Kevin Clement, was charged with Using a Motor Vehicle Without Authority. It was also learned that the passenger, Sharriff Johnson, had failed to register as a sex offender, for which he was additionally charged.

All three were transported to the State Police barracks in Norwell, where they were booked. They were scheduled for arraignment this morning in Plymouth District Court.
