State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 2 in Erving
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Ronald V. Legros Jr. indicates 35-year-old Shane M. Jackson of Bernardston was operating a 2004 Mack Dump-Truck on Route 2 West when 77-year-old Elaine S. Bossert of Wilmington, VT operating a 2001 Subaru Forester on Route 2 East crossed into oncoming traffic. The front of the Subaru collided into the left rear Tandem-Wheels of the fully loaded Mack Dump-Truck and the Subaru came to rest in the eastbound lane. The Mack continued off the right shoulder, up an embankment, rolled onto its left side and came to rest in the westbound lane. Both operators were wearing safetybelts at the time of the crash. Jackson suffered serious injuries in the crash, was extricated from his vehicle with the assistance of the Erving Fire Department and then transported to Franklin Medical Center by Bay State Medical. Bossert suffered fatal injures in the crash and was declared deceased at the scene.
This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Erving Fire Department, the Erving Police Department, the Gill Police Department, Bay State Medical and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.
During the vehicle recovery and investigation Route 2 was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours. Eastbound traffic was diverted at Route 6 in Erving and westbound traffic was diverted at Main Road in Gill.
