State Police Investigate Serious Tractor Trailer Crash in Everett

Today at approximately 1:41 am Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Medford responded to a single tractor trailer roll-over at the Sweetser Circle Rotary in Everett that resulted in a fire and a hazardous material scene.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Joseph Kalil indicates that a 2007 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer operated by 30 year-old Chad LaFrance of Dover, New Hampshire, was traveling on Sweetser Circle between the Main Street, Everett Exit and the Route 16 West Exit when it lost control and rolled over. The tractor trailer was transporting approximately 9,400 gallons of gasoline. When State Police arrived on scene the tractor trailer was engulfed in flames and the gasoline was leaking from the tractor trailer subsequently causing the fire to spread to surrounding structures and motor vehicles. The motor carrier is PS Marston Associates LLC of North Hampton New Hampshire.

Although this crash still remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, LaFrance will be issued a citation for speeding and more charges may follow pending the completion of the investigation. The Massport Fire Department, the Everett Police and Fire Departments, the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and the United States Coast Guard assisted Troopers at the scene.

The hazardous material scene is ongoing under the command of Chief David Butler of the Everett Fire Department. Due to the investigation, travelers are advised to seek alternate routes.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
