State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 195 West in Fall River

Today, at approximately 2:26 a.m. troopers assigned to the North Dartmouth Barracks responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 195 West near Route 24 South in Fall River that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Corey Rose indicates that 26 year-old Nathaniel Abrantes of Westport was operating a 2001 Toyota Avalon sedan on Route 195 West near the exit for Route 24 South in Fall River when he lost control of the Toyota, resulting in a roll-over crash on Route 195 West. Abrantes who was not wearing a safety belt, sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Toyota, 30 year-old Steven P. Abrantes Jr. of Fall River was taken by ambulance with serious injuries to Rhode Island Hospital. Two other passengers in the Toyota, 24 year-old Robert Manchester of Fall River and 21 year-old Anthony M. Mcardle of Fall River were both taken by ambulance with minor injuries to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.

Preliminary investigation indicates that speed was a factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Fall River Police Department, Fall River Fire and Rescue and Westport Police Department assisted troopers at the scene.

Route 195 West was closed for approximately 2 hours as a result of the crash investigation and vehicle recovery.
