State Police Investigate One-Vehicle Crash on Route 495 North in Haverhill
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael E. Provost, indicates a 17 year-old female was operating a 1999 Jeep Cherokee on Route 495 North, when the vehicle went off onto the left shoulder of the roadway. The operator attempted to return to the roadway and she lost control of the vehicle, striking a cement barrier on the left side of the roadway. The Jeep then rolled over and came to rest on its passenger side in the left travel lane. The juvenile operator sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital. The passenger, 41 year-old Tina Roux of Salem, New Hampshire, also sustained serious injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center. Neither the operator nor passenger were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
The Haverhill Police Department, the Haverhill Fire Department and MassHighways assisted troopers at the scene.
During the crash investigation, Route 495 North was completely closed for approximately 15 minutes while a medical helicopter landed to transport Roux. Additionally, the two left lanes of Route 495 North were closed for approximately 1 hour.
This crash remains under investigation. No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
