State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 2 in Leominster

Today, at approximately 6:35 a.m. troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Leominster responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 2 East west of Route 113 (exit 32) in Leominster that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Peter Stanley indicates that 65-year old Barbara A. Oja of Westminster was operating a 2005 Honda Accord on Route 2 East when she lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the left shoulder of the roadway and struck the median's Jersey-Barrier. Oja was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but she sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Leominster Hospital by ambulance where she was later declared deceased.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Leominster Fire Department and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery the left lane of Route 2 East was closed for approximately two hours.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
