State Police Make One Arrest and Seize a Large Amount of Substance Believed to be Heroin

On January 9, 2007 at about 7:45 p.m., a trooper assigned to the State Police Barracks in Springfield stopped a motor vehicle on Route 91 North in Longmeadow for a speeding violation. This initial motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of the driver of the motor vehicle and the seizure of a large amount of a tan powder like substance believed to be heroin. The tan powder like substance has an approximate weight of 300 grams.

The driver of the motor vehicle, Juan O. Rodriguez, age 20 of 113 Exchange Street in Chicopee was arrested at the scene and transported to the State Police Barracks in Springfield. He is being charged with speeding and trafficking in a class A controlled substance. His bail has been set at $500,000 and he will be arraigned this morning in Springfield District Court.

Another trooper from the State Police Barracks in Springfield and a trooper from the State Police Canine Section assisted the trooper at the scene. No further information is currently available for public disclosure. Please do not contact the barracks directly.
