State Police Investigate Serious Crash on Route 495 in Marlborough

Today, at approximately 12:25 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Millbury responded to a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Route 495 South prior to Route 20 (exit 24) in the Town of Marlborough that resulted in one serious injury.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Anthony Kurgan indicates that 46-year-old Paul Byrnes of Marlborough was struck in the center travel lane of Route 495 South by a 2007 International Tractor Trailer operated by 48-year-old John Trimble of Toledo, Ohio. Byrnes sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to UMass Memorial Hospital University Campus. Trimble, who was wearing his safety belt, was uninjured in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. The State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Marlborough EMS and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle removal, the ramp from Route 495 South to Route 20 East was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours.
