State Police Respond to Passenger Bus Crash on Route 90 West

Today, at about 11:15 a.m., State Police from the Tunnels Barracks responded to a passenger bus crash on Route 90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) at Exit 19 (Allston-Brighton Tolls).

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Johanna Lawlor-Moore indicates that a Fung Wah Bus was approaching the tollbooths at Exit 19 when it lost control, traveled to right and struck the right-side guardrail. The bus was being operated by Jimmy Chow, age, 50, of Brooklyn, NY. The bus had thirty-five passengers. None of the occupants was injured during the crash. The bus was disabled. The Fung Wah Bus Company dispatched a second bus to remove the passengers safely from the scene.

Chow was cited for:

  • Speed Greater than Reasonable
  • Failure to Use Care in Stopping
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Maintaining a False Log/Record for Duty
  • Defective Equipment (Brakes)

The crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit assigned to the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Troopers had to completely shut down the roadway at Exit 19 for about 5 minutes as the bus was removed from the guardrail and towed from the scene.
