State Police Investigate Route 495 Medway Crash

On January 13, 2007, at about 2:25 p.m., State Police from the Millbury Barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 495 North, just north of exit 18, in Medway.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Anthony Kurgan indicates that 18-year-old Ashley Cardy of Milford was traveling on Route 495 North in the center travel lane in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. She maneuvered her vehicle into the right travel lane and forced the driver of a 1995 Ford Explorer, who was traveling in the right travel lane, to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The driver of the Explorer, 49-year-old Jose Cabral of Milford, lost control of his vehicle, causing it to roll over off the right side of the roadway. Although properly belted, Cabral and a six year old male in the vehicle were ejected during the rollover.

Cabral and his two passengers, 41-year-old Ramilda Cabral of Milford and the six year old male, were transported by ambulance to UMass Medical Center in Worcester for treatment of serious injuries. Cardy was uninjured in the crash.

While this crash remains under investigation, investigators believe that operator error on the part of Cardy was the primary factor. No charges have been filed at this time. Bellingham Police, Fire and EMS and Franklin EMS assisted at the scene.

The right travel lane was closed for about 40 minutes.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

The right travel lane on Route 495 North was closed for about an hour.
