State Police Promote Motorcycle Safety

On Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the Squantum Point Park in Quincy, members of the Massachusetts State Police Troop H Community Action Team will host a motorcycle safety tips demonstration. With the high price of gasoline and the summer season upon us, there are many more motorcycles on our roadways. This event will highlight the safety concerns of both motorcycle riders and other motorists it will include the following:

For Motorcyclists :

  • The wearing of Department of Transportation approved safety gear.
  • The importance of motorcycle safety courses.
  • Most common causes of collisions.
  • Use of high beams.
  • Importance of a pre-trip inspection.
  • The wearing of bright reflective and protective clothing.

For Motorists :

  • Know your blind spots.
  • Difficulty of spotting motorcycles in traffic.
  • The importance of keeping appropriate following distances.

At this event, Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Troop H Community Action Team will utilize several motorcycles and vehicles to demonstrate many of these important safety tips.
