State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 195 East in New Bedford

Today, at approximately 10:50 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police barracks in Dartmouth responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash on Route 195 East, 1/8 mile East of the Washburn Street on-ramp in New Bedford.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Ronald Boswell, indicates that 57 year-old Peter Davidopoulos of New Bedford, was operating a 2000 Toyota pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle, striking a bridge abutment and then rolling over. Davidopoulos was ejected during the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

Although the crash remains under investigation, it appears that the operator was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Bristol District Attorney's Office, New Bedford Fire & EMS, New Bedford Police Department and Masshighways all assisted at the crash scene.

The right and breakdown lanes were shutdown for approximately 2 hours during the crash investigation.
