State Police Investigate Alleged Kidnapping on Route 128 in Newton

On January 19, 2007, at about 9:00 p.m., State Police from the Framingham barracks arrested a man on kidnapping and related charges in the Newton Service Plaza on Route 128 South in Newton.

Preliminary investigation indicates that State Police received a call at about 7:40 p.m. from 48-year-old Charles D. Minyard of Searcy, Arkansas, who was in his tractor-trailer and parked in the Newton Service Plaza on Route 128 South. Minyard reported that he wanted to clear up an allegation that he had kidnapped a woman from Arkansas, who was, at the time, seated beside him in his tractor trailer. Subsequent investigation by Trooper Franklin Davis, Trooper John Nutter and Trooper Dean Cerullo led to the arrest of Minyard on the following charges: Kidnapping, Threats to Commit Bodily Injury and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife). The alleged victim, an adult female, was taken into protective custody.

Minyard was transported to the State Police Barracks in Framingham, booked and held on $25,000.00 cash bail. He will be arraigned in Newton District Court on Monday.

State Police were assisted in this investigation by Framingham Police.
