Serious One Vehicle Accident, Route 295, North Attleboro

On Saturday, May 19, 2007, at approximately 3:40 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Foxboro responded to a one vehicle crash on Route 295 North, south of Exit 1 (Route 1) in North Attleboro which resulted in one very serious injury.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Allen Luther indicates that 24-year-old Michael S. Patty of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was operating a 2002 black Nissan and traveling northbound in the left passing lane of Route 295, when he lost control of the vehicle, veered to the left and exited the roadway into the median strip. The vehicle rolled over and struck a tree before coming to a stop. Two passersby assisted in removing Patty from the vehicle. He was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro by the North Attleboro Fire Department where he is being treated for serious, life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation but eyewitness reports indicate that excessive speed was a contributing factor.

Troopers from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and investigators from Troop H and the Bristol County District Attorney's office are assisting in the investigation. The North Attleboro Police and Fire Departments along with Mass Highway also assisted troopers at the scene.

During the recovery and investigation the left lanes on both the north and southbound sides of the road were closed to traffic. There was minimum back-up during that time.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
