State Police Investigate Crash on Route 93 South in the Tip O'Neill Tunnel in Boston

Today at approximately 1:41 p.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Ted Williams Tunnel Barracks responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 93 South in the Tip O'Neill Tunnel at exit 24 (Government Center) in Boston.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Paul Coleman Jr. indicates that a Juvenile female was operating a 1998 Ford Explorer on Route 93 South in the Tip O'Neill Tunnel, when she lost control of the vehicle and it rolled-over, causing her to be ejected from the vehicle. The operator was taken by ambulance to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries. The passenger in the vehicle, 18 year-old Eric Burns of Medford, was also taken by ambulance to Boston Medical Center with minor injuries. It is unknown if either the operator or passenger were wearing safetybelts at the time of the crash.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Boston Fire Department and the Mass Turnpike Authority assisted troopers at the scene.

The two left lanes of Route 93 South were closed for approximately three hours during the crash investigation.
