State Police Host International Traffic Safety Conference in Boston

State Police Host International Traffic Safety Conference in Boston

Beginning Monday April 23 rd, 2007, the Massachusetts State Police will be hosting the 29 th annual Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) Conference. The conference will be held April 23-26, 2007, at the Marriott Long Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts.

The 2007 Operation C.A.R.E. International Conference brings together executives from state and provincial law enforcement organizations throughout North America to cooperatively reduce motor vehicle collisions to save lives and prevent injuries. Well over 40,000 people die every year in motor vehicle crashes in the United States. Hundreds of thousands more suffer serious injuries. Motor vehicle crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for people ages 3 through 34.

The goal of this conference is the continued development of new strategies and improvement of existing programs in an effort to reduce property damage, injuries, and fatalities on our highways. To celebrate the thirty years Operation C.A.R.E. has been in existence, the 2007 Conference is one of the most dynamic and inclusive Operation C.A.R.E. conferences ever. Besides lining up a number of informative speakers, the partnerships of Operation C.A.R.E. have been expanded by inviting local police to the first full day of the conference, to introduce them to Operation C.A.R.E. and to enlist them as allies in reducing motor vehicle crashes. Approximately 150 local police officials will be joining over 60 state and provincial police executives on Monday.

Lt. Governor Timothy P. Murray, Secretary of Public Safety Kevin M. Burke, Massachusetts State Police Colonel Mark F. Delaney, Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis and Registrar of Motor Vehicle Anne L. Collins are some of the keynote speakers who will present on Monday morning, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Marriott Long Wharf in Boston.

Over the course of the conference these speakers will be joined by other public safety professionals to deliver the latest information and strategies on reducing the heavy toll of motor vehicle crashes. For further information about the conference, please contact Captain Steven McCarthy of the Massachusetts State Police at 508-820-2300.
