State Police Investigate Crash on Route 1 North in Revere

Today, at approximately 10:50 a.m. troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Revere responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 1 North at the Copeland Circle overpass in Revere that resulted in one serious injury.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Daniel Hartley indicates 33 year-old Avelino A. Fernandez of Lawrence was operating a 2006 Hino 145 Box Truck on Route 1 North in the left lane at the Copeland Circle overpass (Route 60) in Revere when he lost control of the vehicle, continued off of the right shoulder , drove through the guardrail and landed at the bottom of the embankment. Fernandez was not wearing a seatbelt and he was ejected from the vehicle. Fernandez sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to Mass General Hospital.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section & the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Members of the Revere Police and Fire Departments and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.

During the investigation and vehicle recovery, Route 1 North was completely closed for approximately 10 minutes. The right lane of Route 1 North was closed for approximately 2 hours.
