State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 495 North in Rochester

Today, at approximately 7:25 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Middleboro responded to a one vehicle crash on Route 495 North at Route 58 (Exit 2) in Rochester that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mark Burke indicates that 33 year-old Shawn S. Oliveira of Middleboro was operating a 2000 Ford Ranger pick-up truck on Route 495 North in the left lane when he struck the guardrail and rolled over into the median. Oliveira was seriously injured in the crash and subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Middleboro Fire Department, Wareham Fire Department and MassHighways assisted Troopers at the scene.

The left lane was closed for approximately three hours during the crash investigation and vehicle removal.
