State Police Respond to Fatal Crash on Route 6 in Sandwich

Today, at about 8:45 a.m., State Police from the Bourne Barracks responded to a single-vehicle single-occupant crash on Route 6 East in Sandwich near Exit 4.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Vanessa Gasior indicates that a 1998 Toyota Camry was traveling in the left travel of Route 6 East when the vehicle veered to the left, then veered back to the right, rolled over and came to final rest in the right travel lane. The operator of the Camry, Linda L. Morrell, age 46 of Newington, CT, who was ejected from the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Though the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section, it appears that excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash.

The right travel lane of Route 6 East was closed for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Sandwich EMS, the Barnstable Sheriff's Department and the Massachusetts Highway Department, assisted troopers at the scene.
