State Police Conduct SCARR Campaign for June 2007
The SCARR Program (State Courts Against Road Rage) is a state funded program designed to educate and reduce recidivism among drivers charged with serious motor vehicle violations through a one day class taught by members of the Massachusetts State Police. It is a program that combines the referral resources of the courts with the motor vehicle expertise of the Massachusetts State Police to promote driver and community education on the importance of safe and responsible driving. Drivers charged with serious motor vehicle violations are required to take part in the SCARR Program as part of their probation or as required by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
The Massachusetts State Police conducted the enforcement segment of the SCARR Program from June 16 th through June 30 th 2007 primarily in the Newbury area at various locations along Routes 93, 95 and 495.
The June campaign concluded with the following results:
- Operating to Endanger/Negligent Operation Violations 79
- Operating after Suspension/Unlicensed Operation Violations 11
- Warrant Arrests 4
- Drug Arrests 2
- Speeding 318
- Racing 2
- Total Arrests/Summonses 113
- Total Written Violations 785
Through education and enforcement the Massachusetts State Police continue to strive for voluntary compliance with the rules of the road and motor vehicle law. The State Police are committed to minimizing the number of aggressive driving incidents on the roads of the Commonwealth.
