State Police Investigate Serious Crash on Route 195 in Seekonk
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Corey M. Rose indicates 27-year-old Luis A. Rodriguez of Somerset was operating a 2000 BWM 328i in the left lane of Route 195 East when 46-year-old Davis K. Chau of Wareham who was operating a 2005 Toyota Tundra quickly approached the rear of the BMW. Chau lost control of his vehicle and abruptly turned right across three lanes off the right shoulder and then back onto the roadway. The Toyota struck the left side of the BMW and the BMW rolled over into the median where it came to rest on its roof. As the BMW rolled 24-year-old Joshua Dubey of Wareham and 25-year-old Diane Costa of Swansea were ejected from the vehicle. The occupants of the BMW were not wearing safetybelts at the time of the crash and Costa, Rodriquez and another passenger, 22-year-old Crystal Tavares of Fall River sustained minor injures however Dubey sustained serious injuries.
After the initial crash the Toyota came to rest perpendicular to traffic facing the median in the left lane when a 2003 Nissan Altima traveling in the left lane, and operated by 26-year-old Jovino T. Raposo of Swansea, struck the rear of the Toyota. Raposo and his three passengers were wearing safetybelts at the time of the crash and were uninjured. Davis K. Chau and his passenger, 26-year-old Jenny P. Chau of Wareham, were wearing their safetybelts. Davis K. Chau was uninjured and Jenny P. Chau sustained minor injuries in the crash.
All five individuals injured in this crash were transported to Rhode Island Hospital by various ambulances that responded to the scene.
Although it appears speed may have been a factor, this crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Seekonk Police Department, the Seekonk Fire Department, Bristol, RI EMS, East Providence, RI EMS and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.
During the vehicle recovery and investigation the left and middle travel lanes of Route 195 East were closed for approximately 2 hours.
