State Police Conduct Weekend Sobriety Checkpoints

The Massachusetts State Police in conjunction with local police conducted two sobriety checkpoints funded by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security over the August 10-12, 2007 weekend. Sobriety checkpoints were set up across the Commonwealth in New Bedford and Cambridge. The State Police BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) Mobile assisted at the sobriety checkpoint located in Cambridge.

The weekend campaign concluded with the following results:

  • OUI Arrests / State - 9
  • OUI Arrests / Local - 3
  • Suspension/Revocation Arrests - 0
  • Other Felony Arrests - 0
  • Other Misdemeanor Arrests - 0
  • Criminal Summons - 4
  • Civil Speeding - 10
  • Speed Warnings - 15
  • Seatbelt Violations - 4
  • Child Restraint Violations - 0
  • Other Violations - 25
  • Other Warnings - 25
  • Total Number of Citations Issued - 93

Through education and enforcement the Massachusetts State Police continue to strive for voluntary compliance with the rules of the road and motor vehicle law. Alcohol and drug use continues to be a contributing factor in motor vehicle crashes and fatalities. The State Police are committed to minimizing the number of motor vehicle injury crashes and fatalities on the roads of the Commonwealth.
