State Police Conduct Weekend Sobriety Checkpoints
The Massachusetts State Police in conjunction with local police conducted five sobriety checkpoints funded by the Executive Office of Public Safety over the June 26-30, 2007 weekend. Sobriety checkpoints were set up across the Commonwealth in Mashpee, Revere, and Hadley. The State Police BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) Mobile assisted at the sobriety checkpoints located in Attleboro and Leominster.
The weekend campaign concluded with the following results:
- Number of Officers - 71
- OUI Arrests / State - 28
- OUI Arrests / Local - 1
- Suspension/Revocation Arrests - 7
- Other Felony Arrests - 1
- Other Misdemeanor Arrests - 9
- Criminal Summons - 7
- Civil Speeding - 72
- Speed Warnings - 23
- Seatbelt Violations - 24
- Child Restraint Violations - 4
- Other Violations - 45
- Other Warnings - 72
- Total Number of Citations Issued - 222
Through education and enforcement the Massachusetts State Police continue to strive for voluntary compliance with the rules of the road and motor vehicle law. Alcohol and drug use continues to be a contributing factor in motor vehicle crashes and fatalities. The State Police are committed to minimizing the number of motor vehicle injury crashes and fatalities on the roads of the Commonwealth.
