State Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Route 91 South in Springfield

Today at approximately 12:04 a.m., troopers assigned to the Springfield Barracks responded to a serious motorcycle crash on Route 91 South in Springfield that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Aaron Kane indicates that 41 year-old Sean P. McCarthy of Enfield, CT was operating a 2004 Buell XB125 motorcycle on Route 91 South by the Basketball Hall of Fame when he lost control and crashed. McCarthy sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Massachusetts Medical Examiner's Office and members of Masshighways assisted troopers at the scene.

During the crash investigation and vehicle removal the two right travel lanes of Route 91 South were closed for approximately 3 hours .
