102 Student Troopers Graduate Week Long Student Trooper Program
The program was sponsored by the American Legion and provided the 15 to 17-year-old participants a first hand experience and lifetime insight into the role of police officers. It provided those highly motivated young people an opportunity to consider law enforcement as a potential career choice. The Student Troopers participated in:
- Patrol Procedures - Provides an overview of traffic stops in the eyes of law enforcement.
- Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC) - Affords all Student Troopers an opportunity to drive a State Police vehicle on a closed track focusing on driving techniques and vehicle dynamics.
- Confidence Course- Incorporates team building skills with both low and high obstacles and events.
- Internet Safety - Provides Student Troopers proven methods to protect oneself on the internet.
- Physical Training - Student Troopers are encouraged to participate in a daily training regiment that includes running, obstacle courses, interval and endurance training that is supervised by medical staff.
- Static Displays - Shows Student Troopers the wide range of services offered by the State Police.
- Crowd Control - Demonstrates how and why the State Police prepare for crowd control.
- Student Troopers also participate in additional classes in nutrition and the effects of alcohol.
Lieutenant Colonel Marian J. McGovern, the Commander of the Division of Standards and Training, congratulated all the Student Troopers for their outstanding efforts during the week long program and she stated "The lessons you have learned, here, over the past week will help you overcome the obstacles you may encounter through life."
