State Trooper Saves Woman in Submerged Car

State Trooper Saves Woman in Submerged Car

Today, at approximately 8:50 am, Trooper Vincent Noe, of the State Police Barracks in Milton, had stopped a vehicle for speeding on Route 24 North in Stoughton when he witnessed another vehicle change lanes carelessly, cutting off a Jeep Liberty in the center lane.

The driver of the Liberty, 34 year old Heather Scibisz-Nicora of Bristol, RI, jerked her steering wheel to the right, to avoid a crash, but lost control of her vehicle, which spun, hit some gravel in the breakdown lane and flipped onto it's roof landing in a marsh in a gully to the right of the roadway.

Trooper Noe hurried to the crashed car and found the car on it's roof with the passenger compartment completely submerged under marsh water. He waded out to the car in waist-deep water, and was able to assist the driver, who had been wearing her seat belt and was conscious, to the back of the passenger compartment and then helped her out the rear door. Trooper Noe assisted the victim to dry land where she was tended to by EMTs and then transported by ambulance to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton to be checked out further.

The right lane and break-down lane were closed for approximately 40 minutes while the recovery took place. The entire roadway was opened by 9:30 am.

The State Police were assisted at the scene by the Stoughton and Avon Fire and EMS Departments.

Trooper Noe will be available to talk with the media at the State Police Barracks in Milton at 12:00 pm today.
