State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 195 West in Swansea

Today, February 16, 2007, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Trooper Robert Plante assigned to the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth located a single vehicle crash on Route 195 West prior to Route 136 (exit 2) in Swansea that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Robert Plante indicates Sarah A. Coggeshall, a 30-year old from Marion, MA was operating a 1997 Toyota Tacoma on Route 195 East. The vehicle was traveling in the left lane and at some point Coggeshall lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the left shoulder, into the medial. The Toyota continued through a wooded area and rolled over. The vehicle came to rest on its roof, adjacent to the Route 195 West, and was only visible from Route 195 West. Coggeshall sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was declared deceased at the scene. She was wearing her safetybelt at the time of the crash.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Bristol County-State Police Detective Unit and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Swansea Police Department, The Swansea Fire Department, Swansea EMS, and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.

During the vehicle recovery and investigation the left lane of Route 195 West was closed for approximately 3 hours.
