State Police Respond to Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Route 146 in Uxbridge

Yesterday, at about 10:15 p.m., State Police from the Millbury Barracks responded to a motorcycle crash on Route 146 North at Exit 1 in Uxbridge.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Stephen Sullivan indicates that a Suzuki Gsxr-1000 motorcycle was traveling on Route 146 North when it attempted to take the off-ramp at Exit 1, went out control, struck the curb, rolled over and came to final rest in the area between the ramps. The operator of the motorcycle, Richard S. Veras, age 34, of North Smithfield, RI, was transported with serious injuries by ambulance to Milford Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Though the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, it appears that speed may have been a factor in the crash. The State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Uxbridge Police Department, the Uxbridge Fire Department, and Uxbridge EMS also assisted troopers at the scene.

Route 146 North and the Exit 1 ramp were shut down for about 2 hours.
