State Police Respond to a Plane Crash in Yarmouth

Today, at approximately 12:42 p.m. troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in South Yarmouth responded to a plane crash on the western side of Willow Street in Yarmouth that resulted in no injuries.

Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Lawrence Garbacik indicated that the pilot, 23-year-old Christopher Tarozzi of Centerville and the student pilot, 38-year-old David A. McCrossin, were on final approach to the Barnstable Municipal Airport when Tarozzi realized that their 1996 Piper PA-28-140 aircraft had lost power. Tarozzi took control of the aircraft and landed it in an open area adjacent to Willow Street. After landing, as the aircraft slowed on the ground it struck two street signs before coming to a stop. Neither Tarozzi or McCrossin suffered injury in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration. The Yarmouth Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and recovery of the aircraft Willow Street was closed for approximately three hours.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
