State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 495 in Andover

Today, at approximately 7:25 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to a three-car crash on Route 495 North, prior to Route 93 (exit 40-A), in Andover that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Daniel O'Brien indicates that 42-year-old Stephen M. Hollins of Franklin, NH was operating a 1999 Ford pick-up on Route 495 North in the right travel lane when traffic came to a stop. Hollins was unable to stop his vehicle before the front of the Ford crashed into the rear of a 2008 Honda Civic operated by 33-year old Mark Neskey of Pelham, NH which was also traveling in the right travel lane. The Honda traveled left across all lanes and came to rest in the median. The Ford continued in the right travel lane and crashed into the rear of a 2006 Saturn Vue operated by 31-year-old Angela Klein of Nashua, NH. A passenger in the Honda, 57-year-old Lawrence Belodeau of Pelham, NH, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Lawrence General Hospital by ambulance where he was later declared deceased. It is unknown if Hollins was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but both Neskey and Klein were. All three operators sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported to Lawrence General Hospital by ambulance.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Andover Fire Department, Andover EMS and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and the vehicle recovery the all lanes of Route 495 North were closed for approximately 15 minutes and the two right lanes remained closed for approximately 1 ¾ hours.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
