State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 24 in Fall River
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Lori Wheaton indicates that 57-year-old Raymond A. Cochran of Pawtucket, RI was operating a 1998 Volvo station wagon on Route 24 North and as he began to travel onto the ramp for Brayton Avenue he lost control of the vehicle. The Volvo traveled off the left shoulder and struck the ramp's left guardrail. Cochran turned the Volvo hard to the right and the front of his vehicle crashed into the ramp's right shoulder guardrail where it came to rest. It is unknown if Cochran was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but he did sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to Saint Anne's Hospital in Fall River. Later in the evening Cochran was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later declared deceased.
This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. The Fall River Fire Department and Fall River EMS assisted troopers at the scene.
Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery the ramp from Route 24 North to Brayton Avenue was closed for approximately 15 minutes.
