State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 195 East in Dartmouth

Late yesterday, troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth were made aware that 20-year-old Alex M. Santos did succumb to injuries he sustained in a single vehicle crash that occurred on April 24, 2008 at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Route 195 East prior to Faunce Corner Road (exit 12) in Dartmouth

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Neil Cadorette indicates that Mr. Santos was operating a 2000 Chevy Blazer in the left lane of Route 195 East when he lost control of the vehicle. The Chevy traveled into the median and rolled over. At some point during the crash Mr. Santos was ejected from the vehicle and after the crash the Chevy became engulfed in fire. The Dartmouth Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames. Mr. Santos was not burned in the crash. He was transported by Dartmouth EMS to Saint Luke's Hospital with serious injures and was later transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital were he was declared deceased.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Dartmouth Police Department, the Dartmouth Fire Department, Dartmouth EMS and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery, the left and middle lanes of Route 195 East were closed for approximately 45 minutes.
