State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Nonantum Road in Newton

Today, at approximately 7:32 a.m. troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Brighton responded to a single vehicle crash on Nonantum Road in Newton that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Stuart Banks indicates that 26 year-old Lauren Tsai of Waltham was operating a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder westbound on Nonantum Road when the Nissan lost control to the right, hit the curb, traveled down the embankment and entered the Charles River. As a result of the crash, Tsai was seriously injured and subsequently pronounced deceased at the crash scene.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Watertown and Newton Police & Fire Departments and MassHighway also assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle removal, the road was closed for approximately 1 hour.
