State Police Investigate Serious Crash on Route 495 in Plainville
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Thomas Hannon indicates that 20 year-old Matthew Bimberg of Medway was operating a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup in the left lane of Route 495 South in Plainville when he lost control of the vehicle, exited the road to the left, then reentered the roadway and rolled over before coming to rest in the center travel lane. The passenger, 20 year-old Nicholas Coots of North Attleboro was not wearing his safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. Bimberg suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries. He was arrested by Rhode Island State Police after his release from Rhode Island Hospital on a fugitive warrant out of Wrentham Court on charges related to the crash. Bimberg is charged with Causing Serious Bodily Injury by Motor Vehicle While Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Marked Lanes Violation and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Plainville Fire Department, Plainville Police Department, Foxboro Fire Department and MassHighways assisted troopers on scene.
Due to the crash investigation and vehicle removal, the left and center travel lanes of Route 495 South were closed for approximately 4 hours.
