State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 24 North in Freetown
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Timothy Hunt indicates that 38-year-old Brian Pendergast of Brockton was operating a 2003 Honda Civic on Route 24 North in the left lane when he lost control of the vehicle. The Honda veered to the right and rolled over several times before coming to rest in the breakdown lane. Pendergast was not wearing a safety belt and he was ejected from the vehicle.
Pendergast was initially transported by ambulance to Charlton Hospital and then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. Today, Saturday June 14, 2008, at approximately 2:30p.m., Pendergast sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and he was declared deceased.
This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Freetown Police and Fire Departments and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.
Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery the right lane of Route 24 North was closed for approximately 2 hours.
