State Police Investigate Serious Wrong-Way Crash on Route 128 North in Danvers

Today, Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at approximately 4:00 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Danvers responded to a two vehicle wrong-way crash on Route 128 North just north of Endicott Street in Danvers.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Matthew Sheehan indicates that 21-year-old Patrick Alaimo of Methuen was operating a 1996 Saturn sedan southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 128 North in Danvers when he had a head-on crash with a 2000 Isuzu Trooper SUV operated by 44 year-old Kirk A. Palmer of Nahant.

Both operators sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and were transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Crime Scene Services Section. The Danvers Fire Department and MassHighways also assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery, all lanes of Route 128 North were closed for approximately two hours.
