FUGITIVE CHILD RAPIST CAUGHT BY STATE AND REVERE POLICE
Santiago is wanted on charges that he raped and assaulted the girl, who is the daughter of Santiago's girlfriend, in Orlando, Florida. The victim's mother, who had moved to Revere after the crimes were committed, reported the assaults to police in late April. On June 25, the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Revere Police learned that Santiago was living in Revere. By Saturday, investigators, armed with arrest warrants issued by the state of Florida, had gathered information that the suspect was at one of two nearby multi-family residences on Revere Beach Parkway.
After searching the first building and not finding the suspect there, state troopers and Revere officers went to the second building, #785, and were given access by the building's owner. Police surrounded the building while a team of state and Revere officers began searching for the suspect. When police encountered a locked door in the basement, the owner gave permission to make a forced entry. Police made entry, only to encounter a second locked door, and again obtained the owner's permission to go through that door. Police found Santiago hiding under a mattress. The Florida warrants charge Santiago with capital sexual battery, lewd or lascivious battery, and battery of a child.
Information collected by police suggests that Santiago, an Orlando resident, allegedly followed the victim and her mother after they moved north from Florida.
Santiago was to be arraigned today in Chelsea District Court as a fugitive. He faces rendition to Florida to answer to the rape and assault charges.
