State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Route 95 North in Wakefield

Today at approximately 2:45 a.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Danvers responded to a pedestrian crash on Route 95 North beyond Route 129 (exit 40) in Wakefield that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Joseph Keefe indicates that 24-year-old Lauren Casey of Lynn was operating a 2000 Mercury Sable sedan on Route 95 North in Wakefield when she lost control of her vehicle, exited the road to the right, crashed into the guardrail and came to rest at the bottom of an embankment. After the initial crash, the operator exited the Mercury and walked out into the traveled portion of Route 95 North, where she was struck in the middle travel lane by a 2002 Lincoln Continental operated by 51-year-old Joseph Gamache of Hudson, New Hampshire. Gamache, who was wearing his safety belt, was uninjured in the crash. The front seat passenger of the Lincoln, 45-year-old John Collazzo of Hudson, New Hampshire, was also wearing his safety belt and was uninjured in the crash. Casey suffered serious injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Wakefield Police Department, Wakefield Fire Department, Lynnfield Police Department, Lynnfield Fire Department and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the crash investigation and vehicle removal, the middle and right travel lanes were closed for approximately 3 hours.
