State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 395 South in Webster

Today at approximately 1:59 PM Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Sturbridge responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 395 South in Webster that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Luis DeJesus indicates that a 2006 Ford Taurus operated by 65 year-old George Bellen of Dayville, CT, was traveling in the right lane on Route 395 South in Webster, just north of Exit 1, when it changed lanes in front of a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling in the left lane, being operated by 44 year-old Darrell Sabourin of Moosup, CT. The pickup truck struck the Taurus, forcing the Taurus into the median and causing it to roll over. George Bellen and a passenger, 70 year-old Nancy Bellen, also of Dayville, CT, were transported to UMass Medical Center, each with serious injuries. Sabourin was also transported to UMass Medical Center, having sustained minor injuries.

Nancy Bellen later succumbed to her injuries, and was pronounced deceased at UMass Medical Center.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Webster Fire and Police Departments, and MassHighway assisted Troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle removal, Route 395 South was closed for approximately one and one-half hours.
