State Police Investigate Tanker Rollover on Route 195 East in Swansea

Today, at approximately 5:40 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth responded to a one vehicle crash on Route 195 eastbound in Swansea that resulted in minor injuries to the operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Pereira indicates that 55-year-old Kim Kilbreth was operating a 2001 Peterbilt tractor on Route 195 East when he lost control of the vehicle. The tractor traveled into and through the breakdown lane and onto the grassy shoulder coming to rest on its right side. The tanker was carrying 10,000 gallons of gasoline.

Due to the investigation and vehicle recovery Route 195 East and West was closed. The road remained closed until 4:00 p.m. when the breakdown and right travel lanes of Route 195 westbound were opened. At 4:50 p.m. all lanes of Route 195 westbound were opened.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. The Swansea Police Department, Swansea Fire Department, Swansea EMS, Massachusetts Hazmat District 1, Department of Environmental Protection, Providence, Bristol and Warren, Rhode Island Fire Departments, Taunton, Mansfield, Somerset and Rehoboth Fire Departments, and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.
